A Few Stitches at a Time: Join the Project Linus Knit & Crochet Along
There is something quietly beautiful about the way a blanket comes into being.
A ball of yarn waits in a basket. A pair of needles or a crochet hook is picked up. One small stitch follows another, and then another. Slowly, almost without noticing, our hands begin to make something large enough to hold another person in warmth.
This fall, Project Linus is inviting knitters and crocheters to stitch along together, and we would especially love to see makers from our Alabama Gulf Coast community take part.

The Project Linus Knit & Crochet Along opens for registration on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Beginning that day, registration will be available through projectlinus.org, with both a knitted pattern and a crocheted pattern available.
A $20 donation to Project Linus gives you access to either the knit or crochet pattern, or you may register for both for $40. The downloadable pattern instructions will become available on October 10, 2026, giving everyone a chance to gather their yarn, settle into a comfortable chair, and prepare to begin.
One of the loveliest parts of taking part is that you will also be invited to join the international Project Linus Knit & Crochet Along Facebook Group. It will be a place to share your progress, see what others are making, encourage one another, ask questions, and stitch alongside fellow knitters and crocheters participating from around the world. There is something especially heartening about knowing that, while you may be working quietly at home, you are part of a much larger circle of hands making comfort together.
For those joining us from our area, there is one especially important little detail we hope you will remember. When you register, please enter GULF COAST ALABAMA as your chapter name. Doing so allows the funds connected with your registration to support our local Project Linus chapter and the work we are doing for children and families here along the Alabama Gulf Coast.
And that is where this simple knit- and crochet-along becomes something more.
The blanket growing across your lap may begin as yarn and a pattern, but somewhere along the way it becomes an offering. The hours tucked into its rows become warmth. The repetition of the stitches becomes care. And one day, that blanket may find its way into the arms of a child who is living through a moment that feels frightening, uncertain, or simply very hard.
They may never know who made it.
But they will know that someone did.
Someone chose the yarn. Someone sat down and began. Someone kept going, stitch after stitch, until there was something soft enough and warm enough to wrap around them.
That is one of the things we love most about Project Linus. There is room for so many hands in this work. Quilters, knitters, crocheters, beginners, lifelong makers—each of us can bring the craft we love and let it become part of something larger.
So gather your yarn. Invite a friend. Choose the knitting needles or crochet hook that feels best in your hands. Perhaps make a cup of tea and give yourself a little corner of the day in which to stitch.
And when you share a photo of those first few rows in the international group, you may discover that someone many miles away is beginning theirs at almost the same moment.
We would be delighted to have you join us.
Registration opens September 26 at projectlinus.org.
When signing up, remember to choose GULF COAST ALABAMA as your chapter.
Because sometimes changing a little corner of the world really does begin with something as small as a stitch. ❤️
Together, we can wrap more children in comfort, one stitch at a time.
